Board of Trustees

Bethany Christian is an independent school associated with, but not governed by the Mennonite church.  Drawing on best practices for independent schools, the Bethany Board of Trustees acts as a strategic mission-driven body, primarily responsible for guiding the school's vision and long-term goals. Though there are some similarities with public school boards, governance structure is more closely aligned with typical non-profits.  The board sets policies and oversees financial and operational stability but does not manage the day-to-day operations, which are entrusted to the head of school. A key function of the board is to ensure that the school adheres to its mission, values, and overall educational objectives, collaborating closely with the head of school and top level administrators on strategic initiatives and planning.

In engaging with parents and employees, the board's role is supportive and attentive rather than directly operational. Board involvement is balanced with respect for boundaries, achieved through collaborative structures like task forces or ad hoc committees focused on strategic areas. This blend of oversight and partnership enhances the board’s ability to guide the school through complex challenges, supporting a dynamic environment that advances the mission, fosters growth, and ultimately prepares students for meaningful participation in God’s work in the world.
