About Cheryl Mast
I graduated from Goshen College and also have a masters degree in education. I have 3 kids, and I’m married to Brian, who works at GC. I like to bake, bike, play violin, watch my kids in sports and music, and do crafts.
What is your philosophy of teaching?
I believe in making the classroom a safe and engaging place to try new things, make mistakes, learn and grow. I love using hands-on experiments to teach science concepts.
What kind of classroom experience do you try to create for your students?
We do a lot of experiments in class and try to learn through activity.
How do you keep students engaged in their learning experience?
I like to give choices to the students for some assessments and let the interest of the class guide learning. I try to help students see how what we learn in class can be applied to their lives in meaningful ways.
What qualities or life skills do you wish to impart to your students?
My own love of learning, and also perseverance to keep working at things even when they are difficult. And understanding the connection between all the subjects.
What fuels your passion and drive to be an educator?
I love seeing kids get the "ah-ha moments". I like learning from them each day, too.
When you aren't teaching, what can we find you doing?
Playing with my dog, watching my kids in activities, cooking or baking.
