Fine and Performing Arts
Bethany Christian Schools offers a comprehensive Fine and Performing Arts program that nurtures students' creativity and artistic talents across various disciplines.
Visual Arts
Art education at Bethany emphasizes both creativity and critical thinking. Students engage in hands-on projects and art history lessons, exploring diverse materials and techniques. Lower school students attend art classes multiple times per week, while middle school students participate in art sessions every other quarter. High school students can specialize in two-dimensional or three-dimensional art, with advanced courses available in drawing, painting, sculpture, and ceramics. Additionally, intensive Interterm sessions offer specialized art classes such as printmaking and mural painting.
Music
Bethany's music program encompasses both instrumental and vocal training.
Instrumental Music: Students from grade 5 onward can learn string, woodwind, brass, or percussion instruments. The program includes classes and private instruction for beginners and advanced students, with opportunities to perform in ensembles and participate in events like the annual Mennonite regional orchestra festival.
Vocal Music: Chorus classes are available, focusing on developing musicianship and performance skills through ensemble and solo singing. The Concert Choir, comprising students in grades 10-12, performs a cappella and accompanied pieces from various musical periods and participates in local church performances, district choral contests, and annual tours, including the Mennonite Schools Council choir festival.
Theater
The theater department stages multiple productions annually, providing students with opportunities to engage in acting, directing, and stage management. Recent performances include "All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten" and the spring musical "The Secret Garden," a story of hope and transformation.
Fine Arts Events
Bethany hosts various events to showcase student talents. The annual Fine Arts Night celebrates visual and musical arts, featuring student artwork displays and musical performances.
These programs and events reflect Bethany Christian Schools' commitment to fostering artistic excellence and providing students with platforms to express their creativity.
