The Bethany Christian High School speech and debate teams competed at parallel District Congressional debate and speech tournaments at Fort Wayne Dwenger on Saturday, and several students earned top honors.
At the District Congressional debate tournament, junior Eviella Sefu placed fifth in the Senate.
Meanwhile, at the Del Nelson Memorial Speech Tournament held at Dwenger, junior Elena Unzicker nabbed third place in United States extemporaneous speaking and fifth in impromptu speaking. Sophomore Ethan Claasen took fifth in international extemporaneous speaking, and junior Jenny Rios won sixth place in original oratory.
For her efforts on the day in Congressional debate, junior Margi Finnigan earned her third National Forensic League (NFL) degree, Excellence. The NFL is the 100-year-old scholastic speech and debate honor society, the oldest in the United States.
