Since the campaign was launched publicly in the fall of 2019 with an initial goal of $1.6 million, the fundraising and planning have gone well. We were awarded a grant of $390,000 from the Community Foundation of Elkhart County thanks to the generosity of donors who matched that amount, and collaboration with the City of Goshen. You can read more about that grant here, and how it relates to a new city bike path extension through our campus.
Over the course of the year, the architectural plans unfolded, and cost estimates increased our goal from $1.6 to $2 million. We have raised a little more than $2 million—but we now know we need to raise an additional $400,000 to manage water runoff costs that were not initially anticipated. As of Sepember 2020, our new goal is to raise $2.4 million and break ground in 2021!
Myrl ('58) and Phyllis Nofziger are offering to do a 50% match on gifts to Great Strides that come in during September 2020, up to $20,000, at which point they would donate $10,000.
Watch this video of a conversation between Myrl and Head of School Tim Lehman to learn more, and join us in reaching our goal. For gifts of $1000 or more, the donor’s name will be engraved on a brick in the central plaza of the athletic complex (unless you wish to remain anonymous.) We appreciate your continued support of the holistic educational experience that Bethany offers!
