Basketball recaps

Girls Basketball: The varsity finished with a 11-10 record, its best since 1998-99. The team lost to perennial power, and eventual regional champion, Fort Wayne Canterbury in the first round of sectionals. The team won its holiday tourney for the third consecutive year. A highlight for the team was winning at the buzzer vs. Lakewood Park (Dec. 4) after being down 9 with 1:10 to play (see video of winning shot). Marla zumFelde was the team's leading scorer, finshing her career with 897 points, third best all time. She was selected to participate in two all-star games and Coach Krysten Parson was selected to coach one of those (see Champions of Character).

Boys Basketball: The varsity also finished with an 11-10 record. The team won its holiday tourney for the third consecutive year and went on a 10-3 run before losing its last game of the season. The team lost a close game to Lakewood Park Christian in sectional play, a team the Bruins had defeated earlier in the year. This year's team strength was their oustanding defensive play, which held opponents to 43.8 points per game average and overall field goal percentage of 34.2--both among the top in the state. The defensive unit was led up top by Femi Hollinger-Janzen who drew an amazing 14 charges and underneath by Hamilton Thorne whose 35 blocked shots is the third highest season total by a Bruin.
