Three Bethany Alum to Be Inducted

Larry Crilow ('73), Brad Schrock ('98), and Carl Weaver ('65) will be inducted into the Elkhart County Sports Hall of Fame at its annual banquet and induction at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 14, at the Matterhorn in Elkhart.

Larry Crilow transferred to Bethany as a sophomore and earned three letters each in track, basketball, and baseball. In basketball he holds the single game scoring record of 45. His career records include first in free throws made (208), second in steals (162), fourth in career points (922) in an era before the three-point shot. As a senior he was voted second team all-state among private schools.

Brad Schrock earned 10 varsity letters: 4 in baseball, 3 in basketball, and 3 in tennis. In tennis he started at singles all three years, but did not play his senior year so that he could focus on baseball. In baseball he is the career leader with 14 wins and 191 strikeouts. In basketball he was leader of the team that made Bethany's first semi-state appearance in 1998. He was a defensive standout who was usually assigned to guard the opponent's best offensive player. Offensively he scored 558 points, was fifth in career assists (212), sixth in career free throw percentage (78%), and 7th in career steals (130).

Carl Weaver has been selected for induction as a cross country and track-and-field coach at Goshen High School. He compiled a 78-37 record in seven years in boys cross country, 117-53 record in 21 years in boys track and field, and 29-15 record in five years in girls track and field. He coached 58 IHSAA state qualifiers.
