Charlie Steiner (’67) and Sarah Yoder (’01) will be inducted into the Elkhart County Sports Hall of Fame during its annual banquet and induction ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 11. Tickets for the banquet-ceremony are $25 and may be purchased through Thursday, Nov. 2, at Bethany.
Charlie Steiner was one of the first good athletes to attend Bethany and helped Bethany establish its interscholastic program. He lettered in four sports: soccer, basketball, track, and baseball. His best sport during high school was basketball. He was a great shooter and averaged 16.5 points per game during his senior year. During his two years at Bethany he scored 520 points.
Sarah Yoder lettered in three sports, playing volleyball and tennis four years and basketball two and was selected as Bethany’s outstanding female senior athlete in 2001. Her best sport was tennis where she posted a 41-5 record at no. 1 singles over three years. She was a state finalist her senior year. Following college, she coached girls tennis at Bethany for six seasons (2006-11) with her teams posting a 69-32 record (.683).
